Animation Is Film Festival 2017


Animation Is Film Festival is a major animation festival taking place October 20-22, 2017 at the historic Mann’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood (TCL Chinese 6 Theater). The Festival will present a highly selective showcase of the best-animated films from around the world, plus red carpet, filmmaker Q&As, special events, receptions, and both juried and audience awards.

The animation festival tickets will go on sale September 20th. Eight feature films will be screened at the competition. Among those films are Oscar contenders.


  1. The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales (U.S. Premiere)

    : Patrick Imbert, Benjamin Renner
    The Big bad fox & other tales is a 2017 French animated film adapted from Renner’s own books Le grand méchant renard and Un bébé à livrer. Originally conceived as half-hour TV specials, all three segments of the film are linked together by a frame narrative. The film premiered at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in 2017 and was later released by StudioCanal in France on June 21.

  2. Big Fish and Begonia(North American Premiere)

    Liang Xua, Zhang Chun
    Big fish and begonia is the first animated feature film of B&T Studio collaborated with Studio Mir. It was released in both 2D and 3D formats in China by Enlight Media in 2016.

  3. Birdboy: The Forgotten Children (Los Angeles Premiere)

     Alberto Vázquez & Pedro Rivero
    Birdboy: The forgotten children is a 2015 animated film where three children decide to leave their homes to look for a better life.

  4. The Breadwinner (U.S. Premiere)

  5. Lu Over The Wall (North American Premiere)

  6. Mary and the Witch’s Flower (North American Premiere)

     Directors: Hiromasa Yonebayashi
    Mary and the witch’s flower is a 2017 Japanese anime fantasy produced by Studio Ponoc, based on The Little Broomstick by Mary Stewart.

  7. Tehran Taboo (North American Premiere)

     Director: Ali Soozandeh, Germany, 2017
    Tehran Taboo was screened in the International Critics’ Week section at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

  8. Zombillenium (North American Premiere)

    Directors:  Arthur de Pins & Alexis Ducord
    Zombillenium is based on the comic series of the same name
