The Breadwinner is a 2017 Canadian-Irish-Luxembourgian animated film by Cartoon Saloon. The movie is directed by Nora Twomey and executive produced by Angelina Jolie and Mimi Polk Gitlin. The movie is based on the best-selling novel by Deborah Ellis. The budget of the film is $10 million and music is by Mychael Danna and Jeff Danna. The film has its world premiere debut at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.  With a team of over 200 artists, Twomey created the 2-D animation with acrylic and painted environments. I expect this movie to do well this year and expect this movie to make the list for best animation at the Academy Awards. 

The breadwinner, also known as Parvana is a children’s novel.  First published in 2000 the title of the book refers to the role of the protagonist, 11-year-old Parvana, who is forced to be the breadwinner for her family in Afghanistan.

The author spent several months interviewing women and girls in refugee camps in Pakistan. The book has received several literary awards, including the Peter Pan Prize and the Middle East Book Award in 2002.
