About The BAFTA

The British Academy Film Awards, also known as the BAFTAS, will be held on February 2, 2020. Nominations were announced on January 7th and feature the best feature-length films that were screened at British cinemas in 2019.  Even though Disney has once again dominated nominations for the best-animated film category, it’s great to see films like Klaus and Shaun the Sheep get some recognition.

Frozen 2

Frozen 2 Story:  Did somebody say movie sequel!? Frozen 2 takes place three years after the original film. Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf embark on a quest that soon turns in a journey of self-discovery.  Ice Powers may be included.

Fun Fact: Frozen 2  was teased in Zootopia as “Floatzen 2.”

Klaus

Klaus Story: Who would have thought Netflix would have distributed an animated movie with beautiful hand-drawn animation!

Klaus was directed by Sergio Plabos which stars the voices of Jason Schwarzman, J.K. Simmons, Rashida Jones and more. Similar to the story of Santa Claus, the movie follows a postman who becomes friends with a toymaker.  Klaus is expected to make a run for an Oscar for this year.

Fun Fact: The film was pitched to various studios, who perceived it as “too risky,” until Netflix acquired the rights in 2017. Good job, Netflix!

A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon

A Shaun the Sheep Movie Farmageddon: No sheep were harmed in the making of this film. This stop-motion science-fiction comedy packs a serious punch. Produced by Aardman Animation, this film tells the story of Shaun and the flock encountering alien life.

Fun Fact: The security access code in the secret base is the tones from Steven Spielberg’s 1977 Sci-Fi film, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Toy Story 4

Toy Story 4 Story: Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the original characters from the Toy Story franchise travel on a road trip with Bonnie. They meet a new toy named Forky, who decides he does not want to be a toy. Prepare yourself for an existential rollercoaster.

Fun Fact: This film was released 24 years after Toy Story.
