If you enjoy fairytales with a twist then this movie is right for you! Revolting Rhymes is a 3D computer-animated two episode short released by BBC. The movie was produced by Magic Light Pictures and the animation crew Triggerfish Animation Studios. It is directed by Jakob Schuh and Jan Lachauer . The film is based on the same title, Revolting Rhymes by British Novelist, Roald Dahl.
The story is told from the Big bad wolf who tells the true story of fairytales from Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Cinderella and Jack and the Bean Stalk. Although its a retelling of fairy tales, each character has a twist of their own that has a connection to one another in some way.
Although the film came out the end of 2016, the short has been getting a lot of praise and some awards and nominations. The film actually won a BAFTA Children’s Award and is up for Best Animated Special Production for the Annie Awards this upcoming February. I expect the short film to get more praise.
If you enjoy fairytales or holidays movies, I recommend the short. The film has a charming and whimsical feel to it and the design is very organic with bright colors. Each character has a unique personality and comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. Revolting Rhymes has some violence throughout the film but it can be recommended for all ages. I enjoyed the design and color schemes as well as the structure of the story with its witty rhymes and storytelling. I would like to see more work from Magic Light Pictures and Triggerfish Animation Studio in the near future. I give this short film, four jams out of five.
