About the 91st Annual Academy Awards

The 91st Academy Awards (The Oscars) will honor the best films of 2018.  The Academy Awards will be given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to 24 categories. The event will be hosted at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. The ceremony will be held on February 24, 2019.

Best Animated Feature Film

Incredibles 2

The Incredibles 2 was distributed by Walt Disney Pictures and is the sequel to the superhero movie, The Incredibles (2004). The story follows the not so ordinary, Parr family.

Fun Fact: There is a dedication in the closing credits, “This film is dedicated to the SUPER FAMILIES and friends whose love & support keep us strong.”

Isle of Dogs

The Isle of  Dogs is a stop-motion animated film written and produced by Wes Anderson. The story is set in a dystopian society set in Japan. The heroes of the story revolve around a young boy and a group of dogs. All dogs are banished to an island following the outbreak of a canine-flu.

Fun Fact:  The film cast includes four Oscar winners: F. Murray Abraham, Tilda Swinton, Fisher Stevens and Frances McDormand, and eight Oscar nominees: Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Bryan Cranston, Greta Gerwig, Roman Coppola and Bob Balaban.

Mirai

Mirai is a sumptuous, magical, and emotionally soaring adventure about the ties that bring families together and make us who we are. The film is a Japanese animated film written and directed by Mamoru Hosoda.

Fun Fact:  The first Japanese animated film that is not a Studio Ghibli production nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Ralph Breaks the Internet

Ralph Breaks the Internet is a 3D computer-animated comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. It is the sequel of Wreck-It-Ralph (2012). The story follows Wreck-it Ralph and Vanellope Von Schweetz as they face their own adventures and challenges in the internet.

Fun Fact: This is the first full-length computer animated sequel film to be produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and the fourth sequel film overall by the same animation studio, following The Rescuers Down Under (1990), Fantasia 2000 (1999) and Winnie the Pooh(2011).

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a computer-animated film based on the Marvel Comics. Produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation it is set in alternate universes when Morales becomes one of the many Spider-Men.

Fun Fact:  One of the many ways the Imageworks team paid tribute to old comic books through the visual style was to imitate the imperfections of offset printing.

    1. Spider verse I’m hoping wins. Mirai was alright. I thought your name was so much better from a couple years ago but never made top contenders
