Popeye (2016)

Sony reveals new computer graphic animation test footage for the new “Popeye” movie. Since first appearing in comic strips since 1929, Popeye the Sailor Man has endured many transformations from animation, live action and comics created by E.C. Segar.  The new movie is expected to hit theaters in 2016 and  is already generating a  huge buzz on social media. The film animation is very different from past works but the movie preview footage seems to be more “colorful” and “creative”.

POPEYE_1The movie will be directed by Genndy Tartakovsky himself that grew up being a fan of Popeye the sailor since his childhood. According to Genndy Tartakovsky, he had to make several alterations to the script to get the right tone for a Popeye film: “To do Popeye, it has to be broad physical comedy with half the dialogue that a normal movie has, and you want it to be really visceral. So it’s going to be ten times more cartoony than Hotel Transylvania (2012). But the biggest challenge is how do you take a tattooed, pipe-smoking sailor into today? That’s a challenge that we’re definitely trying to figure out: how to make it contemporary, but not take everything away from what’s been done.”
