The Star is a 2017 American computer-animated Christian comedy film directed by Timothy Reckart. Based on the Nativity of Jesus.The animation was produced by Cinesite Studios. The movie was originally titled, The Lamb. Brian Henson and Lisa Henson from the Jim Henson Company are executive producers of the film.The movie was released on November 17, 2017, and has a 86 minute running time.  The overall film budget was $20 million.

The Star Movie Review

This Movie Falls Short With A Boring Plot and Little Humor.

I kept my expectations low for this movie and for the overall result, The Star is not a great movie from Hollywood. With the many talented voice actors in the lineup, I was hoping this movie would shine. Overall, the animation was mediocre. Some parts especially the landscapes and close up of the Star itself was very good. The battle scenes were somewhat intriguing and the environment pictures such as the storm and rain were impressive. But looking at the film as a whole, the design of the people, characters and animals were not memorable.

The characters from the people and animals personally weren’t likable. Yes, there was character development but the characters were boring and sometimes annoying. Out of all the characters, I enjoyed the Lamb, Ruth. She had some hilarious parts, you liked her and she had character development.  The movie is historically inaccurate and I was expecting a good soundtrack from the film. Not music you can find at the local Bed Bath and Beyond during the holiday season.

The movie also had many plot holes such as where did the owner of the Donkey even go after he tied him up in the stable? Why did the King have only one guard go to Bethlehem? What happens to the King after Jesus is born and what was the background of the wise men?

This movie might break even with their budget but I don’t expect this movie to get any recognition at any awards this season. Being a big fan of the Jim Henson Company I hope to see more works from them that are better than the Star. I give this movie one dancing dove out of five.
